Dr. Banks brings over ten years of experience in student affairs/services and educational research at four-year institutions, two-year institutions, and experience working directly as an Umoja Program Director. His most salient passions regarding his work experience have come by way of working with students of color, and more explicitly, aiding in the holistic success of Black students.

Before and during his professional career, he was fortunate to attend California State University, San Bernardino, for his undergraduate degree in Education. During his undergraduate career, he witnessed how a lack of navigational capital can disqualify even the most brilliant black minds when it came to higher education. Upon witnessing this, he enrolled at California State University, Fullerton, to pursue a degree in Higher Education to assist in combating this phenomenon in colleges and universities. Continuing this fight, he later acquired his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from CSU, Fullerton. During this time, he studied the impact of servant leadership and Critical Race Theory on African American males' transfer process. Umoja's work is significant and central to his professional and personal life, and he looks forward to continuing to serve the foundation in any way he can.
